Email integration
The email agent lets you ask CODEXIS AI a question by ordinary email. You write from your own mailbox, send the message to the agent's address, and the answer arrives back in your inbox.
You don't have to sign in or open a browser. It comes in handy when you are travelling, writing from a phone, or want to send a question together with an attachment you already have in your mail.
What it is for
You ask the same way you would ask in the chat. You can attach a contract, a court decision, or any other document and have it reviewed. The answer arrives by email and contains a link that opens the whole conversation in CODEXIS AI, where you can carry on.
How it works
So the agent knows an email really came from the person it claims to be from, the message must be digitally signed. The signature used is S/MIME, which Outlook and other common mail programs support.
Without a signature the agent silently discards the message and replies to nothing. That is deliberate — otherwise anyone could send a question in your name.
The whole thing therefore takes three steps:
- Obtain a personal certificate for signing email and set it up in Outlook.
- Upload the certificate authority that issued your certificate into CODEXIS AI, once.
- Send signed emails and receive answers.
You do the first two steps only once. They are covered on Certificate and how to upload it. Sending itself is covered on How to email the agent.
What to watch out for
The address you write from
The agent identifies you by the sender's email address. It has to be the same address you use in CODEXIS AI. Write from a different mailbox and you get no reply.
Processing a question consumes credits, just like in the chat. Attachments are limited to 25 MB in total and at most 10 files per message. If you send the same email twice, the agent processes it only once.
