How to email the agent
Once your certificate is set up as described on the previous page, you simply write an ordinary email.
The agent's address
agent@mail.codexis.aiWhat to do
Compose a new message to the address above. Put a short summary in the subject and your question in the body — the same way you would ask in the chat. The more specific the question, the better the answer.
Before sending, turn the digital signature on. In Outlook it is a button or a switch under Options on a new message. Without a signature the agent discards the message and you never find out.
If you want a document reviewed, add it as an attachment.
What comes back
An answer arrives by email shortly. Processing usually takes a few minutes, longer for complex questions with attachments.
The reply contains the answer itself, links to the sources the AI drew on, and an Open in CODEXIS AI link. That takes you into the chat, where the conversation continues — you can follow up there as usual.
Following up by email
You do not have to switch to the application. You can simply hit Reply on the agent's answer and ask your follow-up there. The agent recognises the message as a continuation and picks up in the same chat, exactly as if you had written in the application.
The same rules as for the first message still apply:
The reply must be signed too. A signature is not inherited from the original message — every email is verified on its own. An unsigned reply is discarded and you never find out.
You must reply from the same address you wrote from the first time.
Use Reply, not a new message. If you write a fresh email to agent@mail.codexis.ai instead of replying, the agent has no way to see the connection and opens a new chat. You get no error — the question is simply answered without any knowledge of the earlier conversation. The same happens if your email client breaks the reply chain (typically by forwarding).
Limits
| What | Limit |
|---|---|
| Total size of all attachments | 25 MB |
| Number of attachments per message | 10 |
Every question consumes credits, just as in the chat.
When no answer arrives
The agent deliberately stays silent about messages it will not process. You get no error message, so you have to work through what might have gone wrong.
The message was not signed. The most common cause. Check in your Sent folder that the message carries a signature mark.
You wrote from a different address than the one in CODEXIS AI. The agent cannot find you by that address and drops the message. This applies to aliases and shared mailboxes too.
The certificate was issued by an authority CODEXIS AI does not know. Upload it as described in the guide.
The certificate has expired. Check its validity and have a new one issued if needed.
You sent the same message twice. The agent processes an identical email only once. Send a new question rather than forwarding the old one.
None of that helped?
Contact support and include the time you sent the message and the address you sent it from. We can trace the message in the system from that.
