The Word add-in, editing Word files in a conversation, the Outlook add-in and emailing the agent are four different things. What matters is which application you work in and what you get as the result.
You work directly in Word. On the Home tab you click CODEXIS AI and ask questions in the side panel about the document you have open. You install the add-in from Microsoft Marketplace and sign in with your CODEXIS account. See Microsoft 365 integration for the steps.
You work in CODEXIS AI Agent and do not need Word open. You upload the document to the conversation or the agent finds it in connected storage, and on your instruction it creates or edits a Word file, for example from a template or another document. The result is a file, not a panel in Word.
You work in Outlook on an open email. You open the CODEXIS AI panel from the message actions and ask about the message; nothing is sent. It installs the same way as the Word add-in.
You write an email to agent@mail.codexis.ai and the answer comes back to your mailbox. The message must be digitally signed with your personal certificate, so you first set up the certificate once in desktop Outlook. You respond to the agent's answer with Reply and continue the same conversation. Setup is covered in Email integration, sending a request in How to email the agent.
The differences between Chat and Agent are summarised in CODEXIS AI Agent basics. The User Manual walks you through the app step by step.
